Ortega and Loyd get Avenida back on a winning track

They claimed dramatic 68-66 road win at Sopron Basket in a roller-coaster encounter, to avoid a fourth straight defeat.

Having come back for his first game since departing at the end of the 2017-18 season, it proved to be a winning return for Coach Ortega, although his team had to survive squandering a 20-point lead and Sopron with a triple attempt rimming out in the dying seconds.

He was certainly helped by an injection of quality as FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 winner Jewell Loyd netted 19 points in her first outing. Another player who competed in Tenerife was also influential, with Nigerian forward Adaora Elonu coming up with some big defensive plays, as well as 13 points and 5 boards.
Sopron Basket lost their third straight game and face Dynamo Kursk next, with Avenida drawing level with their Hungarian rivals with a 5-6 record.
