MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) - Famila Schio finally ended their agonizing wait for a victory on Thursday evening as they belatedly got off the mark at the eighth attempt.

In what has been a dismal season so far for the Italians, it looks like the new year could be kinder to them after they got an opening victory on the board after locking down Castors Braine 76-48. It was veteran Raffaella Masciadri who rolled back the years with a smart 15 points.

Sopron Basket are on a roll right now and their latest success means recent signing Queralt Casas has yet to taste defeat as she enjoyed a third win in a row since she arrived. The 80-52 victory against her previous employers Carolo Basket was made extra special by the fact she plundered 16 points and added 7 assists.

Sopron playcaller Roberto Iniguez was also satisfied, with his team exacting revenge for an early season loss against their opponents in France.

He stated: "The work the team is doing is incredible, they are not looking for excuses. They are going forward with ambition, they know that we are on the right way.

"Our defense is getting closer and closer to perfect. I told them in the locker room that I am very proud of them."

Last but not least, holders UMMC Ekaterinburg started the new calendar year in much the same fashion as they spent most of 2018 - namely winning games in style.

They were far too hot to handle for the visiting ESBVA-LM and managed to rack up another century as they ran out 100-75 winners.  Kayla McBride, Alba Torrens, Emma Meesseman and Brittney Griner all registered double-digit scoring returns, while Courtney Vandersloot impressed with 7 assists.
