Suffering from a shockingly slow start to the contest which saw them trailing their Italian hosts 20-6, the Spanish side had to gradually claw their way back into the game and eventually ran out 61-57 winners.

It was the third quarter that turned the contest on its head as Valencia, who had struggled to find any kind of rhythm for the entire first half, came racing out of the locker room, suddenly looking like a champion team as they outscored Umana Reyer 20-6.
While it's not the kind of margin that gives Valencia a huge advantage, they will feel a sense of relief with the second leg at home. Celeste Trahan-Davis contributed a solid 12 points and 7 rebounds and Angela Salvadores also finished with 12 points.

Umana Reyer will feel they let Valencia off the hook, but they were undone by their poor accuracy from behind the three-point line, making only 3 of 27 attempts. Astou Ndour starred with 13 points and 12 boards, while fellow forward Kayla Thornton netted 19 points.
