Valencia Basket claim maiden EuroCup Women title

SZEKSZARD (Hungary) - Valencia Basket Club SAD became the first Spanish team to claim the EuroCup Women title after crowning their perfect campaign with a dramatic victory over Reyer Venezia in the Final.

SZEKSZARD (Hungary) - Valencia Basket Club SAD became the first Spanish team to claim the EuroCup Women title after crowning their perfect campaign with a dramatic victory over Reyer Venezia in the Final on Sunday.

Having topped their Italian rivals 82-81 following a pair of last-second free-throws by Raquel Carrera, the Ruben Burgos-coached side lifted the trophy to conclude the Final Four in Szekszard, Hungary as the new champions of the competition.

The late-game drama saw Reyer Venezia take the lead with 1.2 seconds on the clock after a clutch basket by Yvonne Anderson, but Valencia Basket found a response on the other end to secure their maiden international title.

Valencia Basket became the 15th different club to win EuroCup Women and the very first Spanish one to do so, with previous winners representing France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Russia and Turkey.

Instrumental in both wins at the season-ending tournament in Hungary, Queralt Casas was named the Most Valuable Player of the Final Four after collecting a team-high 20 points and 3 assists in the Final.

Meanwhile, Yvonne Anderson was the game's leading scorer with 26 points for Reyer Venezia, who suffered their second EuroCup Women Final defeat after finishing runners-up in 2018.

Earlier in the day, Final Four hosts KSC Szekszard sealed a podium finish to their EuroCup Women campaign after defeating French side Carolo Basket 68-55 in the Third Place Game.

With the 2020-21 campaign organized in single venue hubs to ensure the health and safety of all participants, this year's event marked the first time a Final Four was organized to conclude the season since 2005.
