So you think the EuroCup Women title is already decided?

VENICE (EuroCup Women) – After Galatasaray completed a stunning 90-68 first leg Final win against Reyer Venezia, do they already have one hand on the coveted EuroCup Women trophy?

VENICE (EuroCup Women) - After Galatasaray completed a stunning 90-68 first leg Final win against Reyer Venezia, do they already have one hand on the coveted EuroCup Women trophy?

Perhaps not. Even if the Turkish side have a commanding advantage from their impressive Istanbul outing last week, there are reasons to believe that Reyer Venezia could possibly climb the mountain and turn the tie on its head.

The ‘Comeback Queens’ of Venezia love a great escape

As we have mentioned frequently in recent weeks, there is no more dangerous team in the European game than Reyer Venezia when they look to be on the brink of failure. They completed a near miracle in the Quarter-Final against Mersin with that last-second 'four-point play'. That was one Turkish scalp taken unexpectedly. Everyone thought they had blown their chances of reaching the Final when they were hammered 74-65 in the first leg of the Semi-Finals in Antakya. Yet against the odds and notably against another Turkish opponent, they recovered and won 80-57, to astonish even their own fans and make it to the title game. Have they got one more special comeback in their locker?

When Allie Quigley issues a warning, it’s time to listen

She had barely wiped the sweat from her brow in the wake of her sizzling and record-breaking points tally in the first meeting, but Quigley was quick to fire one more accurate shot. Rather than it being about nothing but net, it was a verbal warning to her teammates and the celebrating fans that the tie was far from over. She said: "We had the best lesson from the Hatay game and we know that 20 points or so is nothing to them. Venezia have come back from this kind of deficit before."

Turkish heartache has been seen previously in the Final

    ...

It is not only this season's failures of both Mersin and Hatay which will be on the minds of the Galatasaray players and coaching staff. One of the most famous EuroCup Women moments down the years was the Final in 2013. Another Turkish club in Kayseri Kaskispor (currently Agu Spor) had the Trophy in their hands. But a spectacular collapse in the last minute or so witnessed them snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against Dynamo Moscow. Yes, history shows it is never over until that final buzzer sounds.
