FIBA EuroBasket Top 100 scorers: 100-76

MUNICH (Germany) - With the 100-day mark in the countdown to FIBA EuroBasket 2022 fast approaching, there's no better time to remember the top 100 scorers in competition history.

Divided into four segments of 25 players each, the series will culminate on Tuesday, May 24 with exactly 100 days to go to the 41st edition of the flagship event, when the full list will be unveiled.

100. Alfonso MARTINEZ

Martinez is the first player on the list having accumulated just under 400 points in his EuroBasket career. The Spanish international featured in five different tournaments from 1959-1969 with 15.6 points per game in the 1967 edition.

Tetiva made six consecutive EuroBasket appearances in a 10-year span for Czechoslavakia as they collected three medals in that period. He averaged a best of 12.8 points per game in 1959 to help his side win a second silver medal in the space of three tournaments with a bronze in between.

Fridzon made a EuroBasket debut for Russia in 2005 and went on to play in six different tournaments. The 36-year-old won a first - and only - EuroBasket medal in 2011 when Russia claimed bronze with a third place finish with Fridzon averaging a best of 15.0 points per game in the 2015 tournament.

Danilovic made it onto the podium on each of his five appearances at EuroBasket; winning the competition four times; two representing Yugoslavia and two representing FR Yugoslavia. He made his debut in the 1989 edition in Zagreb and averaged a team-best of 17.4 points per game during the 1995 tournament in Athens.

Jasikevicius was the EuroBasket MVP in 2003 after leading Lithuania to a historic title with 14.0 points and 8.2 assists per game. The current Barcelona head coach made five appearances at EuroBasket in total and also earned a bronze medal in 2007 before later retiring from the national team after the 2012 Olympics.

Pospisil featured at five separate EuroBasket tournaments during the 1970s and won a solitary medal in 1977 as Czechoslavakia earned bronze with victory over Italy. Pospisil top scored with 16.3 points per game in the tournament before making his final appearance two years later as they finished fourth.

One of the most decorated players in EuroBasket history, Volnov won the title on six occasions with the Soviet Union from 1959-1969 during their period of dominance of winning eight straight gold medals.

Kuusela made five straight appearances for Finland at EuroBasket from 1955-1963 with a tournament-best of 16.6 points per game coming in his penultimate tournament. The guard was an inductee into the Finnish Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019 - five years after his death.

De Colo has been an ever-present at EuroBasket for France since making a first appearance at the event in 2009. De Colo made the All-Tournament Team in 2015 after posting 13.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game on home soil.

Baumruk was EuroBasket MVP in 1957 having scored 17.2 points per game for Czechoslavakia as they earned a bronze medal. It was one of four medals won by the forward in six appearances at the tournament with three silver medals achieved during the 1950s as they lost out to the Soviet Union on each occasion.

83. Vassilis SPANOULIS

One of the all-time European greats, Spanoulis only recently retired from playing in 2021. The 39-year-old had a EuroBasket debut to remember in 2005 as part of the Greece roster that won the title for the first time since 1987. Spanoulis then helped lead his country to bronze four years later as a member of the All-Tournament Team with 14.1 points and 4.2 assists per game. 

 

82. Edward JURKIEWICZ

Jurkiewicz was the leading scorer at EuroBasket 1971 with an average of 22.0 points per game for Poland as they finished in fourth place for the second successive tournament. The forward made it onto the All-Tournament Teams in both 1969 and 1971 and played for a final time in the 1975 edition.

81. Anatoly MYSHKIN

The veteran guard recently announced his retirement from the national team after a run of five consecutive appearances at EuroBasket. Kalnietis was part of the Lithuania side that finished as runners-up in successive tournaments; missing out in 2013 and 2015, and played a major role in ensuring they will be playing in this year's edition after a huge defensive play in the Qualifiers.

79. Mihai ALBU

Albu played in six consecutive EuroBasket tournaments for Romania from 1961-1971 with a scoring best of 15.6 points per game in his final appearance. He is regarded as one of his country's greatest ever players, and sadly passed away in 2017 at the age of 79.

Batum has a medal of every color at EuroBasket with France making it onto the podium in three of his four tournament appearances. The 33-year-old has become a leader for the national side and helped France win EuroBasket for the first time in 2013 with averages of 11.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in Slovenia.

 

 

77. Antonie RIGAUDEAU

Rigaudeau made four appearances at EuroBasket for France during the 1990s with a scoring best of 15.5 points per game in the 1999 edition. The veteran guard came out of retirement for the 2005 tournament and helped France claim third place for their first medal at EuroBasket since 1959.

Bodiroga had an illustrious career across Europe at club level with plenty of success at international, too; winning EuroBasket on three occasions. He was one of three FR Yugoslavia players to make the All-Tournament Team in the 1997 title-winning team before making another appearance in 1999 when they secured bronze with an average of 14.3 points per game.
