    EUROBASKET 2009, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Balanced team that relies on teamwork and balance on both ends of the floor. Use their size to their advantage on offense and defense. Ability to score points in the half and full court give them a chance to win games. Posts are used inside and out on offense and challenge every attempt at the basket on defense.

    TRANSITION
This team can score in many different ways in transition. The ball is advanced by the point guard mainly in the middle of the floor. Ball is advanced well on the pass to players on the wing for open shots or drives. Posts can run and score in the full court. Many times posts will on ball screen for the point guard to create driving lanes or open shot.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Offensive attack is bolstered by posts that can play inside and on the perimeter. Perimeter shooters are dangerous off the bounce or spotting up on penetration. Because posts can pass and shoot well from perimeter, the on ball screen works well. Post screen and either roll to basket or step back for open three pointer. Versatility and balance is good and all players are a threat to score in the half court. Very capable full and half court scoring team. Points come from transition as well as half court sets and motion offense. Sets plays are a big part of their offensive system and the ball gets in the hands of their best scorers often. Post players have ability to be physical inside on the block and can step outside and knock down open shoots also.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Shuffle cut, down screen action leads to on ball screen and roll or step back.
    1. Flex cut action followed by on all screen and roll.
    2. Shuffle cut leads to staggered single screen.
    3. Ball reversal, shuffle cut, staggered single screen leads to throw back pass to weak side.
    4. Corner cut followed by shuffle cut and screen away. The cutter curls and screener steps back.
    OB PLAYS
From various sets, their goal is to screen for shooters for open shots. On the baseline the stack set is the most common alignment. First screen frees a perimeter player, followed by ball reversal and screening action for the shooter. The same will occur on sideline OB plays, with shooter making baseline cuts off screens for open shots.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
A combination of man to man and 2-3 zone forms their basic philosophy. Zone is played on most out of bounds situations. Wing and high post coverage are consistently solid. At times the lack of blocking out and defending penetration hurt their zone. In man to man they use their size to challenge all attempts at the basket. Will be physical, reach and gamble to create turnovers.
