MADRID (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Spain are better equipped than most national teams to make up for the absences of leading players.
That’s why there is no weeping and gnashing of teeth following Pau Gasol’s decision to rest this summer and not play at the FIBA World Championship.
"Pau Gasol is a very important player for this national team and would be for every team,” Spain veteran Felipe Reyes said.
“For me, he is the greatest center in the world and has given us a very big leap in quality.
"The good thing about this national team, though, is that you can miss one and still do well.
“Marc Gasol, Fran Vazquez, Jorge Garbajosa, Victor Claver and I all played in that position and together we will surely do well."
Pau Gasol, the MVP of the 2006 FIBA World Championship and last year’s EuroBasket, is playing in his third straight NBA Finals with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The series with Boston is knotted at 2-2.
Spain will this summer take on France, Lithuania, Lebanon, New Zealand and Canada in Group D at the FIBA World Championship.
