LOS ANGELES (EuroBasket 2011) - Los Angeles Lakers star Pau Gasol had expected to be playing in the NBA post-season right now but the Dallas Mavericks swept LA 4-0 in the Western Conference semi-finals.

That has left Gasol with plenty of time to consider where things went wrong for his team, and time to think about what his next move will be on the basketball court.

That next move is likely to be in a Spain shirt when his national team gathers with coach Sergio Scariolo later this summer to begin preparing for the EuroBasket in Lithuania.

"I want to fight for the Olympic Games," Gasol said on Tuesday.

"Now I have more (time to) rest and it won't be a problem to play."

Gasol was the EuroBasket 2009 MVP after leading Spain to their first gold medal in the competition, but he didn't play at the FIBA World Championship last year in Turkey.

While adding that the decision "hasn't been taken" on his definite participation in the EuroBasket, it seems likely that once again Spain will have their talisman when they run onto the floor in Lithuania and attempt to reach the Final in order to qualify for next year's London Olympics.
