Enthusiasm and excitement mark New Competition System workshop in Japan

TOKYO - FIBA's Regional Office in Asia continued its programme of introducing FIBA's New Competition System to a number of national federations in Asia with a workshop in Japan.

FIBA Regional Director - Asia Hagop Khajirian led a team of FIBA officials from the regional office in taking the administration of the Japan Basketball Association (JBA) through the paces of various elements of the new calendar coming into effect in 2017.

"Japan and JBA have an excellent track record of hosting events to almost perfection. There is no doubt that the organisational capacity of JBA is par excellence. And I do believe with this workshop we have prepared JBA to deliver another excellent set of games once again," Khajirian said.

"I also am of the firm opinion that the JBA will be among the foremost national federations to take maximum advantage of the marketing opportunities that the New Competition System provides. I certainly count on the JBA to provide us with another fool-proof blueprint."

FIBA’s New Competition System ​​serves to qualify teams for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

"We are certainly excited to hear these remarkably new opportunities," said Mitsuhiro Hirota, Deputy Secretary General of JBA.  "I think this new competition system has come at just the right moment as far as Japan basketball is concerned given that we are working with the FIBA Task Force in taking the sport to the next level."
