BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The digital scoresheet (DSS) was successfully implemented at all the games of the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers.
The technology was first used in Asia in 2019 during the FIBA Women's Asia Cup in India and the FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Thailand.

"The use of digital scoresheet in the Asia Cup Qualifiers is of great importance," said Fathi El Qassab, Head of the Technical Development Committee in the Saudi Arabia Basketball Federation (SBF).
The digital scoresheet offers convenience for the scorer's table operators in several different areas, resulting in lessening the margin of error.
"There are many advantages in using the digital scoresheet, the best of which is the ease of correcting errors and taking out the paper in a coordinated and clear font," said El Qassab.
"Before the game starts, it takes less time to prepare for the game," added Kim Bokyeong, the scorer's table operator from Thailand vs. Korea game in Seoul. "I can check and correct the player list and jersey numbers quickly and accurately. It also takes less time to wrap the score sheet up after the game, and then referees could sign on it easily. Also, the Technical Delegates, Federations, and all teams could have a clean score sheet."
Despite the technology being relatively new, the digital-based and environmental-friendly system is easy to comprehend and operate.
"I was a little nervous when the game started because I was not fully familiar with it," he admitted. "As time went by, I got relaxed and became more confident. It is comfortable as there is no situation that other people don't recognize the letters I wrote."
"I practiced more than five times, which means more than five games, and got more comfortable with the usage of the new program. Using the program is not difficult."
"It was easy to deal with the digital scoresheet, and from its ease, a person can train himself without the need for a workshop," El Qassab also said about the convenience of the system. Nonetheless, FIBA Regional Office - Asia had already helped a webinar with all participating National Federations concerning the DSS to make the operation was running smoothly.
The DSS was targeted to be a must in all basketball events Asia-wide as of January 2020 and is now available for all National Federations to use.
