Costa Rica Basketball Federation begin FIBA PLUS Strategic Planning Program

SAN JOSE (Costa Rica) - FIBA and the Costa Rica Basketball Federation (FECOBA) are happy to announce the launch of the FIBA PLUS Strategic Planning Program in Costa Rica.

SAN JOSE (Costa Rica) - FIBA and Costa Rica are working hand in hand to build a stronger foundation for basketball in the Central American country and have set in motion the FIBA PLUS Strategic Planning Program for the Costa Rica Basketball Federation (FECOBA).

The FIBA PLUS Strategic Planning Program is one of the initiatives undertaken by FIBA, as part of its 2019-2023 strategy, to "Empower National Federations" to reach their full potential. The program, delivered by FIBA, is designed to assist National Federations in the development of basketball in their countries by helping them develop a sustainable strategic focus.

This initiative is a tailor-made program for Costa Rica Basketball with the aim to put in place correct strategies for its specific needs to improve the federation's capacity to organize, professionalize and commercialize its basketball activities, ensuring the game's successful development in Costa Rica.

After discussions with the FECOBA and its external stakeholders to better understand how the federation works, the environment in which it operates, and its goals, FIBA will first support FECOBA to help complete a situation analysis. This analysis will provide information for the FECOBA Board Members to consider when defining their future focus and developing their plan and provide necessary performance baselines and benchmarks which the federation can use to measure its future growth and progress.

Throughout the FIBA PLUS Strategic Planning Program, the Costa Rica Basketball Federation will define goals, develop SMART objectives and detailed action plans, at least for the next 24 months. FIBA will support the FECOBA along the way with strong mentoring, workshops and tailored assistance. A monitoring process will also be used to re-evaluate the strategy regularly to ensure it's still right for the needs of the federation. All workshop sessions will be conducted via videoconference.

FECOBA President Franklin Martinez Arias said: "Our National Federation is very grateful to FIBA for involving us in this strategic development project. We are sure that the entire basketball family will benefit from the work we're going to do."

Martinez Arias continued: "I want to thank in advance the project manager, Mr. Jorge Espinoza, for his willingness to donate his time and professionalism to the development of basketball in Costa Rica, together with Daniela Corrales.

"The entire Board of Directors has great expectations and is eager to collaborate as necessary to enable this program to benefit all those involved in basketball across the country."

With one of FIBA's current main focus areas being the development of National Federations, the FIBA PLUS Strategic Planning Program will provide the Costa Rica Basketball Federation with a high level of expertise, knowledge and practical guidance on each step of their strategic planning process. I look forward to seeing their progress soon."
