LAGOS (2015 Africa Champions Cup Women) - Adewunmi Aderemi is no longer the head coach of Nigerian side First Bank.
Aderemi and First Bank parted ways on Monday as the club continues its preparations for the 2015 African Champions Cup Women (ACCW) FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifier, due to take place next month in Cotonou, Benin.
Over the course of his 14 years at the helm of the club, Aderemi helped them win eight Nigeria national league titles as well as the 2003 edition of the ACCW.
"I am fulfilled in all 14 seasons I spent with First Bank basketball club and wish the club the very best especially in the 2015 continental campaign," he told FIBA.com.
"I am glad that I won the first continental championship for the club.
"I hold no grudge against the club management for sacking me. The manner in which it was done was painful but life goes on."
First Bank last won the Nigerian national title in 2014, but were unable to prevent local rivals Dolphins Basketball Club from capturing the last edition of the championship.
A First Bank official said: "The management had to take the drastic step it took on our long-standing coach, and we wish him well in his future endeavours."
Aderemi served as an assistant to Nigeria head coach Scott Nnaji at AfroBasket Women 2015 in Yaounde, Cameroon where the team finished third - and as a result clinched a place in the 2016 FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT) - as well as the 2015 All-African Games held in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
Aderemi has been replaced by Peter Ahmedu, who last coached Mark Mentors Basketball Club.
