SANTIAGO (FIBA Americas Championship for Women) - Cristian Santander has been appointed as the new coach of FIBA Americas Championship for Women hosts Chile.
The Argentinian coach will succeed William Colon and will continue Chile's preparations for September's tournament.
Chile have been drawn in Group B of the competition, which begins on September 25, alongside Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.
"We've arranged terms and I'm starting work on May 1 or 2," said Santander.
The FIBA Americas Championship for Women winner will secure a place at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while the other semi-finalists will compete in a qualifying tournament next year.
"Our main goal is to be in the top four. However, we have to be very careful because we face tough opposition," added Santander.
