It was a dominant night protecting the basket as Cavars beat the previous record held since 2017.

MUNICH (Germany) – BC Sabah’s Klavs Cavars set a new FIBA Europe Cup single-game record with 8 blocks, on Wednesday night.

The Latvian international had a block party, and everyone from Maroussi BC was invited, with a dominant performance in the paint against the Greek side in an 82-71 defeat.

Cavars broke a seven-year old record held by Kervin Bristol of Kataja Basket, as the American had been the only player in the competition's history to record at least 7 blocks in a single game.

Cavars also added 9 points and 13 rebounds to round out an impressive individual stat-line, despite the defeat with Sabah eliminated from contention to qualify.

The 28-year-old center is averaging 7.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and a tournament-leading 3.4 blocks per game - and is now six blocks away from becoming the third player to reach 50 in the competition.
