MIES (Switzerland) - After igniting Canada's historic title-winning run at the first-ever Champions Cup, inspirational leader Katherine Plouffe has taken the early season crown and become the No.1 women's player in the FIBA 3x3 rankings.
The 32-year-old Plouffe climbed to the top of the world rankings after a brilliant campaign in Bangkok where she once again dominated the paint, finishing with 25 points during Canada's unbeaten run in the brand new event pitting the best vs the best.
With her twin Michelle watching on from the sidelines, Plouffe mustered all of her big game experience and grabbed clutch rebounds during Canada's thrilling victory in the final over Olympic silver medalist Spain.
It was revenge for Canada, who lost to Spain in a heart-breaking OT defeat at the Paris Olympics before they fell short of a podium finish after losing to rival USA in the bronze medal game.
Plouffe has made an early season warning and proved that she is getting even better despite having almost accomplished everything during her legendary 3x3 career. The towering Plouffe has long set a standard having won MVPs on the Women's Series and last year she was crowned with the MVP at the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Debrecen.
Plouffe overtook in the rankings Dutch sensation Noortje Driessen, who finished 2024 as the No.1 women's player in the world. Her Canada teammate Paige Crozon, who was on fire throughout the Champions Cup, sits at No.3 and she continues the momentum after winning MVP at the AmeriCup late last year.
French wizard Marie-Eve Paget and athletic Dutchwoman Janis Boonstra round out the top five.
