Records are made to be broken, but can these milestones of the AfroBasket Qualifiers come to an end this month?

ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - When the final window of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers gets underway later this month, there will be a number of individual records on the line.

From high scoring, to huge rebounding performances, to great efficiency, there will be plenty to watch out for.

Antananarivo will host the final six games of Group D, Tripoli will see eight teams from Groups B and E in action, while Rabat will be the venue for eight more teams from Groups A and C to make their final pushes to secure a place at this year's AfroBasket in Angola.

This article focuses on the record of the AfroBasket qualifiers from 2019 - when FIBA's new competition came into effect - to November 2024, when the second window of the tournament took place in Dakar, Senegal.

Below you will find the AfroBasket Qualifiers records of the last six years.

Most Points scored in a game - (Robinson Opong, UGANDA)

Robinson Opong has been a key factor for Uganda throughout the 2025 AfroBasket Qualifiers.

On 24 February 2024, Opong broke the record for most points scored in a single game as Uganda's Silverbacks defeated Nigeria 72-62 in a Group B clash.

The shooting guard was unstoppable, scoring 24 of his tournament-high 39 points from behind the arc.

The previous AfroBasket Qualifiers scoring record belonged to Opong's national team teammate Ishmail Wainwright, who scored 36 points against Cape Verde in the second window of the 2021 AfroBasket Qualifiers in Alexandria, Egypt.

Most Assists in a game - (Nassein Badrush, LIBYA)

Naseim Badrush averaged 13.5 points and 11 assists in two games in Window 1 of the AfroBasket Qualifiers in February 2024.

After missing Libya's 72-68 loss to Cape Verde with a leg injury, Badrush returned 24 hours later to help his country to a 71-59 win over Uganda.

Playmaker Badrush gave his all, scoring an incredible 14 points and setting a tournament record with 14 assists.

Libya finished their first three games with a 2-1 record and high hopes of securing their first AfroBasket qualification since 2009.

Most 3-points made in a game - (Pedro Bastos, ANGOLA)

A day after their shock defeat to Kenya, Pedro Bastos led Angola to a much-needed win over Senegal.

On 21 February 2021, Angola crushed Senegal 82-51 in Yaounde, Cameroon, behind an astonishing performance from Pedro Bastos.

In just 27:36 minutes on the floor, Bastos shot 8-for-15 from behind the arc to finish with a game-high 24 points off the bench.

Bastos' mark was matched by Uganda's starting shooting guard Robinson Opong, who shot 8-for-16 from behind the arc to help his country to a 72-62 win over Nigeria on 24 February 2024.

Most Rebounds in a game - (Bright Osagie Akhuetie - NIGERIA)

In addition to his 16 rebounds, Akhuetie contributed 9 points in a 10-point loss to Uganda.

Coming off the bench to tie the record for most rebounds in a game is something Akhuetie will cherish for the rest of his career.

In just 20:39 minutes on the floor, Akhuetie dominated the boards and finished with a tie-breaking 16 rebounds although Nigeria lost to Uganda 72-62 on 24 February 2024.

Two other players have grabbed 16 rebounds in a single game: Tunisia's Makram Ben Romdhane had 16 boards in a 63-58 win over Central African Republic on 21 February 2021, while Kenya's Tylor Ongwae had 16 rebounds in a 79-62 win over Mozambique on 27 November 2020.

Both Ben Romdhane and Ongwae spent more than 15 minutes on the floor than Akhuetie.

Most Steals in a game - (Jean Jacques Nshobozwabyosenumukiza, RWANDA)

Jean Jacques Nshobozwabyosenumukiza tries to intercept a South Sudan play.

After losing their first five games of the 2021 AfroBasket qualifiers, Rwanda were determined to end the tournament on a winning note and South Sudan paid the price for their determination.

Rwanda were led by Nshobozwabyosenumukiza, whose 14 steals (to go with his 14 points) not only set a tournament record but also forced the Bright Stars of South Sudan to turn the ball over 31 times.

In the end, Rwanda ended their campaign with a 62-58 victory over South Sudan at the Salle Mohamed Mzali in Tunisia on 19 February 2021.

Most 2-points made in a game - (Jilson Bango, ANGOLA)

Jilson Bango was almost unstoppable against Guinea in the first round in Monastir.

When it comes to dominating the paint, few can match the accuracy of Jilson Bango, and that was evident as the Angolan forward sliced through Guinea's defence on 23 February 2024.

Bango shot 11-for-15 from the floor to finish with 24 points and 9 rebounds as the former African champions beat Guinea 76-70 at the Salle Mohamed Mzali in Monastir, Tunisia.

Central African Republic's Allan Dokossi (10) and Madagascar's Francis Ramanampamonjy Mory (10) had previously scored 10 two-points in a game.

Most Blocks made in a game - (Pape Dime, SENEGAL)

Pape Malick Dime caused all sorts of problems for the Mozambican offence.

Swatting machine Pape Malick Dime left his mark on the 2021 edition of the AfroBasket Qualifiers when he recorded the highest number of blocks (6) in a single game to help Senegal destroy Mozambique 84-43 on 20 February 2021 in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Highest Efficiency in game - (Ishmail Wainright, UGANDA)

Ishmail Wainright almost single-handedly lifted Uganda past Cape Verde.

On 29 November 2020 at the Al Ittihad Stadium in Alexandria, Egypt, Ishmail Wainright produced a magnificent performance to lead Uganda to a 101-98 victory over Cape Verde.

And as much as Cape Verde kept switching their defence on Wainright, he found ways to escape with unexpected answers.

When the final buzzer sounded, the Silverbacks had prevailed and Wainright had set a tournament record with an efficiency rating of 51.

    Triple-Double - (Mohamed Sadi - LIBYA)

Mohamed Sadi has been the heart and soul of Libya throughout the AfroBasket Qualifiers.

There is only one player in the history of the new AfroBasket Qualifiers format who has recorded a triple-double.

Morocco's Mohamed Choua and Central African Republic's Allan Dokossi each had two double-doubles, but on 23 February 2023, Mohamed Sadi became the first player to record a triple-double.

Sadi finished with 24 points, 12 assists and 10 steals in Libya's 89-82 overtime win over Nigeria. Sadi was one rebound shy of a quadruple-double.
