    TORONTO (2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women) - Canada announced their 12 players for the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship for Women to be played from September 23-27 in Cuiaba, Mato Grosso, Brazil.

    This team will have veteran guard Teresa Gabriele and Kim Smith who plays in the WNBA with the Sacramento Monarchs. There is also a mix of players who are in Europe and at the college level.

    The roster is completed by Natalie Achonwa, Jordan Adams, Kelsey Adrian, Chelsea Aubry, Janelle Bekkering, Kaela Chapdelaine, Leanne Evans, Megan Pinske, Kadie Riverin and Tamara Tathman. Gabriele, Aubry and Smith played in the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women. The head coach is Allison McNeill and her assistants are Lisa Thomaidis along with Mike McNeill.

    Canada is in Group A along with Brazil, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Group B features Argentina, Chile, Cuba and Venezuela.

    This tournament will qualify the top three teams to the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women to be played in the Czech Republic.
