    Brazilian manager Gerasime Bozikis dies at 79

    MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA ​​family mourns the passing of Gerasime Nicolas Bozikis, former president of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (1997 to 2009).

     MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA ​​family mourns the passing of Gerasime Nicolas Bozikis, also known as Grego, former president of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (1997 to 2009) and former president of Consubasquet (2008 to 2019).

    Grego was in charge of the highest basketball entity in South America (first Abasu and then Consubasquet) between 2008 and 2019. In addition, he was the second Vice President of FIBA ​​in the Americas between 2014 and 2019, during the presidency of Usie Richards. He was also part of the FIBA ​​Ethics Committee and was currently integrated in the Competitions Committee for the Americas as an honorary member.

    Horacio Muratore, honorary president of FIBA, left his condolences: “Apart from a personal friend, Grego was a companion for many years. He began his presidency in the Brazilian Confederation when I was in Consubasquet and he accompanied me a lot in all my projects. He was always a gentleman, he accompanied us and permanently encouraged all the leaders. It is a loss that hurts us a lot and we will always remember him with great affection”.

    The Americas Regional President, Carol Callan, stated: “Mr. Bozikis has been a key player in the development of basketball throughout the region and within the FIBA ​​family.”

    FIBA Americas Executive Director Carlos Alves said: “Our FIBA ​​and the basketball family around the world woke up to the sad news of the passing of Mr. Bozikis. We will miss him as an administrator and as a human being, our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
