    RIO DE JANEIRO (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) – Brazil crushed Uruguay 100-63 to play for the championship at the Super 4 Tournament played at Maracanãzinho in Río de Janeiro.

    Anderson Varejao led with 19 points and 11 boards while Leandrinho Barbosa had 18 for Brazil. Guilherme Giovannoni scored 14 points from the bench and Tiago Splitter finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

    The team coached by Moncho Monsalve won the first quarter 20-17 and took off in the second quarter to leave at halftime 46-29.

    Uruguay never recovered as their best scorers were Leandro Garcia Morales and Esteban Batista who had 11 each.

    "Uruguay entered with a lot of intensity and strenght. We responded with a good defense and with a strong attack to open the lead to end the first half," said center Tiago Splitter.

    "We did a good job, we have to improve on a lot of things, but we are heading the right way," he added.
