SAO PAULO (South American Championship) - South American Championship For Men – The Brazilian Basketball Federation (CBB) announced Paulo Teixeira Sampaio as the head coach who will lead Brazil to the South American Championship for Men. The assistant coach Christiano Pereira, who is also the coach for the U15 Men’s National Team, and the physical trainers André Guimarães and Fábio Ganime complete the technical staff. The official announcement was made this Thursday by the Technical Director of CBB, Luiz Antonio Rodrigues.
“We are sure that this technical staff has excellent professionals, and all of them have a profile that fits completely to our philosophy,” said Luiz Antonio Paulo. “Sampaio had been working with basketball for 38 years, as player and coach. He definitely has all potential to do a terrific job in Brazilian National Team.”
Paulo Sampaio, 51 years old, started his career in 1970 as a player. Since 2005 he coached the senior team of Flamengo and is three times winner of the Brazilan State Championship (2005/2006/2007) and he was South American League’s 2008 runner-up. As assistant coach of Flamengo, Sampaio was two times National Championship runner up (2000 and 2006).
“I have been working my whole life to get to this moment,” said Paulo Sampaio. “Coaching a National Team is a dream come true and I am very happy. Brazilian Basketball fans can expect from me and my assistant Christiano hard work and commitment to victory. We always go to a competition to win and that will be our goal for the South American Championship.”
