SAO PAULO (South American Championship for Women) – Brazil destroyed Chile in two games this week as they continued their preparations for the South American Championship for Women which tips off on August 1.

Antonio Carlos Barbosa, whose team will host the FIBA World Championship for Women in September, beat Chile 111-56 and 110-45.

In the first triumph played at Paulistano gym, Palmira scored 21 points for the Brazilians while the visitors got 17 from Tatiana Gomez.

In the second game, played at Pinheiros gym of Sao Paulo, the Brazilians hammered Chile again with Kelly pouring in 24 points, pulling down 12 rebounds and dishing out five assists.

Gomez again led Chile with 14.

"This game was a good training exercise for us," Kelly said. "I was out for a year and two months with an injury and these games are bringing me back to a good level of fitness.

"As Barbosa said before, we do not have to think about our rivals. We must play with concentration."

Brazil will travel on Monday to Paraguay and take aim at their 11th successive South American title.

Afterwards, they will turn their attention to the FIBA World Championship for Women. They will face China on September 2 and 3 in Sao Paulo.

Barbosa’s team will face China again, along with Canada and Spain from September 6-9, with the 15th FIBA World Championship for Women set to tip off shortly after (September 12).
