JUNDIAI (Olympics) - Brazil's women are gearing up for another run at an Olympic medal.
The preliminary squad is now in training for the London Games with new coach Luis Claudio Tarallo.
Despite the team's title at last year's FIBA Americas Championship in Colombia, Brazil's struggles at the Beijing Games are still fresh in the mind.
In 2008, Brazil had to survive a difficult FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Madrid to reach Beijing.
Once in China, Brazil finished 11th in the 12-team event.
"We are fighting a lot in training to have the best possible preparation to carry out a better campaign than at the last Olympics," veteran point guard Adriana Pinto said.
"They are not good memories."
This will be the fourth Olympics for Pinto, who is also known as Adrianinha.
The 34-year-old made her bow at the Summer Games when they were held in Sydney 12 years ago.
Brazil captured a bronze medal at those Games.
In 2004 in Athens, Adrianinha helped the Brazilians to a fourth-place finish.
The games were tough in Beijing and the women's tournament in London promises to be just as challenging.
"At the Olympics, you do not have to choose the opponent," Adrianinha said.
"Everyone that wins an Olympic place will be there to win and we're going with this thought.
"So we need to do our best to arrive well."
