    RUSSIA
    WOMEN’S OLYMPIC BASKETBALL, 2008

    Team Characteristics
Multi-talented team with scoring balance and efficient isnside and outside attack. Ability to move the
ball forces constant adjustments by the defense. Team concept is evident and a big reason for their
success. Lots of scoring weapons keeps the defense off balance and forces coverage all over the
floor. Team has high basketball IQ, take care of the ball, and attempts high percentage shots.
Talented and deep, this team makes it hard for opponent's to gain momentum for long periods of
    time.

    Offensive Tendencies
Superb scoring ability in the half court. Solid mix of inside and outside scoring ability. Can counteract
the defense with ball movement to open teammates. Take the ball aggressively to the rim and crash
the offensive boards on a consistent basis. Employ on ball screens, hand offs, back door cuts and
excellent spacing to exploit the defense. Good post play forces the defense to collapse, providing
    many outside/in passes and shots.

    Transition
Transition provides a portion of their offensive output. Very quick to convert after missed shots or
turnovers. All five players are capable of running and scoring in the full court. First priority is getting
the ball to the rim, but can pull up and hit shots also. Excellent passing forces defense to close out
which weakens their rim support and weak side help.

    Set Plays
    1. Corner cut, ball reversal, triple screen and slip
    2. High post on ball screen and slip
    3. High post triple hand off to on ball screen and roll
    Out of Bounds
Several different alignments and plays make up their out of bounds game. Post pop and catch leads
o hand off and strong side two man game. The box alignment becomes screen the screener action.
Other plays are designed to free shooters for shots or post feeds to isolated posts.

    Zone Offense
The 4 out/1 in set become high low on ball reversal. Perimeter players run the baseline as ball is
reversed and stretch the defense to the corners. Good spacing on the perimeter leads to openings
inside. Good use of the skip pass and inside/out passing from the post. Excellent spot up shooters
make them a very good zone offensive team.

    Team Defense
Fundamentally sound half court defensive team. Use length and ball pressure to disrupt offenses.
Will utilize double teaming on the ball and in the post. Posts protect the basket by blocking shots and
bumping cutters. Will pick up full court man to man at times to work the shot clock.
