The Most Valuable Players of the Quarterfinals series

MIAMI (United States) – The Basketball Champions League Americas Season 5 Quarterfinals featured a number of exciting matchups. Three out of the 4 series went the maximum of 3 games and we witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the history of the competition, with Hebraica Macabi stunning reigning continental and intercontinental champions SESI Franca on the road.

Those clubs’ success was built on collective performance, but some of those individual showings made a big difference. These were the most outstanding players of each Quarterfinals series:

Franklin Hassell - Hebraica Macabi

The big man’s performance was key to Macabi eliminating one of the tournament’s clear favorites. Hassell imposed his physicality against players with a lot of size like Marcio Santos, Wesley Ferreira and even Lucas Dias. He dominated all of them on both sides of the floor, shooting over 60 percent from the field. And on defense, he afforded them little room by corralling most of the rebounds.

Gabriel Galvanini - Flamengo 

PTS: 22.0 | FG: 64% | REB: 9.5 | AST: 1.5 | STL: 1.0 | EFF: 25.4

Jaú, as he is known in Brazil, is having his moment. Flamengo gave him a big responsibility this year as one of the team’s leaders and the 25-year-old stepped up big time in BCLA. The Brazilians were the only club to sweep their series and much of it had to do with Galvanini, a player for whom Obras had no answer on the boards. In fact, in the first game in Buenos Aires, the southpaw power forward grabbed 10 offensive rebounds. He was also very efficient scoring in both games.

Brandon Robinson - Quimsa

Even at this age, the 34-year-old small forward is performing at a high level, becoming one of the most prolific scorers in BCLA history. During a tough series against a deep and versatile Real Estelí squad, Robinson tipped the scales with his one-on-one prowess and led Quimsa, who won the crown in the first edition, to their third consecutive Final 4.

Jordan Glynn - Halcones de Xalapa 

PTS: 15.0 | 3P: 50% | REB: 6.6 | STL: 2.0 | EFF: 19.3

Glynn had a slow start to the postseason, but in the second game against Nacional he drained a clutch, buzzer-beating three-pointer to keep Halcones alive and force a second overtime. His team eventually won the game and forced a rubber match, where Glynn went off for 23 points, shooting 9/10 from the field and 5/5 from beyond the arc.
