Ennis coming up big when Murcia need him the most
And here we are, it's crunch time or as Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United used to say Squeaky Bum Time.
The final Gameday of the Round of 16 has arrived and only three of the eight Quarter-Final places are guaranteed. Whilst AEK, Unicaja, and La Laguna Tenerife can relax a little going into the final week, safe in the knowledge they have secured the top seed and home draw for the Play-Offs, there are huge ramifications for the results in pretty much every game, for pretty much every team.
One of the most notable names with everything on the line is last year's third-placed team UCAM Murcia.
Sito Alonso's squad match up with first-placed ERA Nymburk this Wednesday, knowing that they have to at least win to secure second spot in the group and a win by 16 points could still earn them the top seed.
Fortunately for Murcia, their talisman and leader Dylan Ennis has been absolutely on fire in recent weeks. Just this past weekend, on March 22, Ennis put up 28 points and 2 rebounds, whilst shooting 50 percent from the field in an 86-70 win over Breogan in the Spanish Liga Endesa.
In the previous game, Ennis put up 18 efficiency points from a performance scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists against Nanterre on March 19. Nanterre won the game 76-71, but Murcia secured the head to head.
Prior to that Ennis had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists in a loss to Girona on March 15, and 20 points, with 4 rebounds and 18 efficiency points in an 85-63 win over Falco Vulcano-Szombathely on March 12.
Ennis seemed to enjoy the challenge of playing the Hungarians because he'd also scored 16 points and dished 3 assists in a 104-90 win over Falco on March 5.
Murcia's schedule in March is nothing short of punishing. By the time the month ends, Murcia will have played 9 games in 31 days.
However, Dylan Ennis has shrugged off the fatigue and got it done, night in and night out. Across the month so far, Ennis has averaged 16.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2 assists.
His season averages read 16.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists whilst shooting 55 percent from the field in the BCL.
Across all competitions, they read as 16 points, 3 assists, and 3.2 rebounds. It's clear for everyone to see that Ennis has stepped it up on the offensive end and taken games by the scruff of the neck when it comes to scoring the ball.
In the first meeting with Nymburk back on February 4, Ennis was also all over the box score again with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
It seems a safe bet that with the season on the line in the BCL, Murcia will look to Ennis for another big night this Wednesday and you'd have to be brave or foolish to bet against him delivering.
Ennis won't come cheap. You will need to spend 16.6 of you 55 efficiency points which means that you will need to get creative with the rest of your lineup but in a week when anything and everything can, and most likely will happen, it could be worth the investment to get the type of score you need from Ennis to help you get a better chance of promotion through divisions or even better, get the bragging rights in your group of other BCL Fantasy game contestants.
