SoftBank Corp. joins as sponsor of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023
MIES/OKINAWA (Switzerland/Japan) - Japan-based SoftBank Corp. has announced it is serving as a sponsor for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 in Okinawa.
MIES/OKINAWA (Switzerland/Japan) - Japan-based SoftBank Corp. has announced it is serving as a sponsor for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 in Japan.
SoftBank Corp. is one of the largest companies in Japan, and the internet services company will join the World Cup as a technology partner for FIBA's biggest international event.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 tips off on August 25. It is also being held in Manila, the Philippines, and Jakarta, Indonesia. In Japan, Okinawa will host a Group Phase over 10 days, with the Final Phase to take place in Manila.
Japan plays Germany in Okinawa on August 25 and then takes on Australia on August 29, for its first two games. The full schedule can be found here.
This is the second time that Japan is a host nation for FIBA's flagship event. The country staged the 2006 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which is widely considered one of the best editions of the event. Greece upset the United States in the Semi-Finals and Spain edged out Argentina as well. Spain then beat the Greeks in the Final.
Spain won the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2006 hosted in Japan.
In the build-up to the World Cup, Japan will play preparation games at the Ariake Arena in Koto in Tokyo.
