Historic records and stats to keep in mind as the Americas Qualifiers come to a close

MIAMI (United States) – After over a year of intense battles, the 2023 FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers are ending in the month of February. We'll soon know the seven teams that will represent the Americas in the famed event where the best 32 teams in the planet will compete.

And as the game dates (the 23rd and 26th) draw near, let's start getting excited by going over some of the numbers and records of these Americas Qualifiers.

Consecutive wins

Canada holds the record for the most consecutive wins in the Americas Qualifiers with 13. The North Americans won their last three games of the 2019 World Cup Qualifiers and still haven't lost in the current edition. If Canada were to win its two remaining matchups, they would become the region's first team ever to complete the qualification cycle undefeated. They have also never lost at home in 10 games.

Games played

Venezuelan big man Nestor Colmenares and Panamanian point guard Trevor Gaskins are the only players to take part in the 22 games played by their respective national teams in the history of the Americas Qualifiers. That's to say that they haven’t yet missed a game in a World Cup qualifier. If one or both were to play in the two remaining games, they will have played in every possible fixture with their teams.

Point differential between the leading scorer and those in second place

Colombian shooting guard Braian Angola leads the 2023 World Cup Americas Qualifiers in points and is very close to being crowned the tournament's leading scorer thanks to the difference he has over Dominican Víctor Liz (17.8) and Mexican Francisco "Pako" Cruz (17.0). However, Angola must keep his pace during the final window because a drop in scoring and a surge from one of his competitors could result in a change in the leaderboard.

Dominican Republic players lead all-time in steals

Víctor Liz (34), Rigoberto Mendoza (31) and Gelvis Solano (29), all hailing from the Dominican Republic, own the top three spots in total steals in the history of the Americas Qualifiers. Gabriel Girón from Mexico shares the third spot with Solano, also with 29. The end Window 6 will determine whether Girón can break up the trio of Dominicans at the top.

Blocks per game from Bruno Caboclo (BRA) and Marcos Delía (ARG)

Brazilian power forward Bruno Caboclo and Argentinian center Marcos Delía lead the Americas Qualifiers in blocks, each with 1.4 a game. Puerto Rican forward Geoge Conditt follows them closely with 1.2 a night and could surpass them during the final two games of Window 6.
