Argentina, Dominican Republic, and Mexico will host the first window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers

MIAMI (United States) – The first window of the Americas Qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will be held in three countries, following confirmation from the FIBA Executive Committee.

MIAMI (United States) – Following FIBA's Executive Committee's decision to reserve the right for bubbles in certain regions due to the pandemic, FIBA Regional Office Americas confirmed the following three locations for the upcoming November window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers.

Buenos Aires will host Group A (Venezuela, Panama, Paraguay and host country Argentina) and B (Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay).

Group C will be held in Santo Domingo (Bahamas, Canada, Virgin Islands, and host country Dominican Republic). Group D will be played in Chihuahua (Cuba, Puerto Rico, USA and host country Mexico).

The competition will be held in a bubble format to ensure the health and safety of all participants. The most important criteria in choosing the hosts were health and travel guarantees and compliance with FIBA health protocols, including testing and controlled entry into a secure environment.

The Road to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 is set to tip-off on the 26th of November and run through the 29th of November in a bubble format. The top 12 teams of the First Round will move on to the Second Round starting in August 2022. Teams will be looking to earn one of the seven slots in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 which will be held in Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.

FIBA will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the Americas daily and communicate further updates regarding FIBA Competitions when necessary.
