    Angola open World Cup Qualifiers preparations with new coach and some new faces

    LUANDA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers) - In his first day at the helm of Angola, newly appointed head coach Will Voigt opened their preparations for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers with 17 of the 25 pre-selected players on Monday.  

    Voigt called up ten of the twelve players who featured at FIBA AfroBasket 2017 with the exception of Armando Costa and Kansas University new recruit Silvio Sousa.

    While the likes of Valdelicio Joaquim, Islando Manuel and Edson Ndoniema - just to mention a few - return for the first time since the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Serbia, Jose Salvador, Ngombo Rogerio and Sebastiao Quicuambi have joined the team for the very first time.

    The Angolans will host Group C of the Qualifiers - from November 24-26 - against Egypt, Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

    Under FIBA's New Competition System, the African Qualifiers for the World Cup will be played in two stages. The top three teams from each of the four groups (A, B, C, and D) in the first round will advance to the decisive 12-team second round. This second stage will see national teams play home-and-away games with the top two teams from each group and the best 3rd-place team booking their places for FIBA's flagship event, taking place from August 31 to September 15, 2019.
