BUENOS AIRES (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Argentina coach Julio Lamas has settled on his 12 players for the FIBA Basketball World Cup with Franco Giorgetti and Spain-based Nicolas Richotti the last two players cut.
CB Canarias ace Richotti had a good chance of making the roster when Manu Ginobili was ruled out through injury but Lamas has taken Selem Safar as his only shooting guard, a member of last year's side that finished third at the FIBA Americas Championship in Venezuela.
Giorgetti is a 2.02m forward on the books of Penarol Mar del Plata.
The 21-year-old Giorgetti and Richotti, 27, both played for Argentina at the South American Championship last month.
Lamas has plenty of experience in the team with Luis Scola, Andres Nocioni, Walter Herrmann and Leo Gutierrez having all played for the country when it won the Olympic title in Athens 10 years ago.
Pablo Prigioni, Facundo Campazzo and Marcos Mata also have played at the Olympics before.
Prigioni helped the country capture bronze at the 2008 Beijing Games and also played with Campazzo and Mata at the 2012 London Games.
Lamas will be hoping to receive contributions from less famous members of the team like young big men Matias Bortolin (Regatas Corrientes), Marcos Delia (Obras Sanitarias) and Tayavek Gallizzi (Quilmes).
Argentina will compete in Group B at the FIBA Basketball World Cup, in Seville, against Greece, Croatia, Puerto Rico, Senegal and the Philippines.
