SKOPJE (North Macedonia) - Roman Avedjev of Estonia took home the Most Valuable Player award at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2024, Division B after leading his team to the title in Skopje.
He also headlines the All-Star Five of the tournament, which also included Davidd-Ioan Rasoga of silver medalists Romania, Switzerland's Elyjah Rebetez, Aaron Ona Embo from Belgium and Montenegro's Djordje Djukanovic.
MVP: Roman Avdejev - Estonia
The tournament's MVP earned his crown by leading Estonia to the title with a double-double on average - he posted 12.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game throughout the tournament and never shied away from responsibility on the defensive end with 2.1 blocks on average, where he led all the players at the event. His top performance came in the Group Stage with 22 points and 12 rebounds against Ukraine.
Djordje Djukanovic - Montenegro
The only member of the All-Star Five from the team outside of the Semi-Finals earned his place as he was by far the best rebounder at the event. Djukanovic grabbed 14 rebounds on average throughout eight games, also scoring 12 points per game and averaging 1.9 steals. A monster double-double of 18 points and 26 rebounds against Netherlands will surely be remembered.
Aaron Ona Embo - Belgium
Belgium may have missed out on the podium and Division A promotion, but Embo sure did show why he is considered the next big thing at the guard position. Real Madrid's starlet shone with 18.9 points and 4.7 assists per game - placing him in the top five on both charts. He particularly impressed in the Third Place Game loss with 35 points with seven threes, also dishing out 7 assists and grabbing 5 rebounds.
Elyjah Rebetez - Switzerland
Rebetez was another one who combined big impact on both offensive and defensive end of the floor. Switzerland's leading force in grabbing promotion spot averaged 18.6 points and 9.7 rebounds, but he also stole the ball 2.4 times per game. He was also only an assist shy of a triple-double in the Quarter-Finals against Montenegro when he posted 22 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists.
David-Ioan Rasoga
By far the best scorer of the tournament, Rasoga scored single digits only against Slovakia in the Group Phase when he had 9 points in only 16 minutes on the floor. Otherwise, a stellar offensive showing throughout the event with 20.9 points per gsame, also topping the charts in assists with 5.6 per game. He especially came up big in the Semi-Finals with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists in a win over Switzerland.
FIBA
