    AUS/MLI - Gems sparkle again

    BRATISLAVA (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - Australia picked up another impressive win in the FIBA U19 Championship for Women when they beat Mali 80-65 on Friday. The win was slightly easier than the scoreline suggested as the Gems eased up in the last quarter which the Africans edged 22-18.

    BRATISLAVA (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - Australia picked up another impressive win in the FIBA U19 Championship for Women when they beat Mali 80-65 on Friday.

    The win was slightly easier than the scoreline suggested as the Gems eased up in the last quarter which the Africans edged 22-18.

    Mali were competive in the first period which Australia took 22-18 but then the Gems took control by winning the second period 16-9.

    They further distanced their opponents by winning the third.

    Fatoumata Bagayoko of Mali scored a game-high 21 points while Nagnouma Coulibaly added 14 rebounds to her 13 points. Fanta Toure (17) and Minata Keita (11) also made double digit scores for the Africans.

    Abby Bishop had 13 points and nine boards for the Gems while Elouisa Manou posted 12 points and hauled down 12 rebounds. Mia Newley made 13 points in the Group D encounter.

    The Aussies have a maximum haul of four points from their first two encounters and, with Sweden, are now in control of the pool.
    Mali and Brazil are playing catch-up.
