Indonesia load up 12-player roster with top scorers and potential new stars

JAKARTA (Indonesia) - Indonesia have formally announced a roster of 12 players for their upcoming games in the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers. The games will be held in Manama, Bahrain and Indonesia will play their first game of the window against Thailand on November 28.

The top performers from Window 1 are both returning to represent the country in Bahrain. Andarakara Prastawa and Abraham Damar Grahita both averaged 21.0 points per game in their first two contests of the Qualifiers. Head coach Rajko Toroman is certainly looking forward to see his two star scorers maintain that level of play in these upcoming games.

There will also be some new faces to look out for on the court for Timnas, the seasoned Lester Prosper and the youngster Agassi Yeseh Goantara.

Prosper brings in a much need high level of energy into the paint for Indonesia in his potential debut. He also adds a lot of experience playing all around the world professionally, whether it is the Philippines, Venezuela, and other countries in Europe.

21-year-old Goantara, on the other hand, has already made his senior national team debut for Indonesia during the Asia Cup Pre-Qualifiers. However, he is expected to be given a larger role than his last time putting on the Timnas jersey.

After suffering 2 losses in the first window, Indonesia’s main priority in Bahrain will be to secure the first win and hope that momentum leads to a consecutive victory. They are currently looking on the outside in of qualifying directly to Asia Cup 2021, but there’s still a lot of basketball left to be played.

There are 24 teams competing in the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers. Once the three windows of the Qualifiers conclude, the top two teams in each group will qualify directly to Asia Cup 2021. The six last-placed teams in each group are eliminated.

Meanwhile, the six third-placed teams in each group will then play in a separate qualifying tournament. Teams will be placed into two different groups of three teams. The top two teams of those respective groups will then lock in their spots at Asia Cup 2021, completing the 16-team roster who will also compete in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers.
