    Chinese Taipei see off Thailand, advance to the Semis

    BANGKOK, Thailand (FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016) – Chinese Taipei ended the hopes of Thailand in making it to the final four for the first time in 36 years, beating them 76-71 on Wednesday.

    BANGKOK, Thailand (FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016) – Chinese Taipei ended the hopes of Thailand in making it to the final four for the first time in 36 years, beating them 76-71 on Wednesday.

    It was an entertaining close encounter between the two teams, but Chinese Taipei eventually emerged victorious thanks at large to team captain Peng Hsiao-Tong.

    Turning point:  With the game tied at 71, Peng Hsiao-Tong scored her two free throws to give Chinese Taipei the lead. Chen Mei-Li’s girls then knew how to hold on for the win.  

    Stats don’t lie: What gave Chinese Taipei the upper hand in the game was their slightly better field goal percentage of 42& compared to Thailand’s 38.

    Game hero: Peng Hsiao-Tong had 12 of her team-high 18 points in the final frame. Wang Jing-Ting added 17, while Lo Pei-Chen finished with 16 points. 

    The bottom line: The win means Chinese Taipei have now booked their place in the semis. For Thailand, they’ll have to play the the Level I playoff with either Malaysia or Indonesia.
