    Teams find out Group Phase opponents for 2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship

    TEHRAN (2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship) - The draw for the Preliminary Round competition of the 24th FIBA Asia U18 Championship to be played in Tehran (Iran) from July 22-31 has been announced.

    TEHRAN (2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship) - The draw for the Preliminary Round competition of the 24th FIBA Asia U18 Championship to be played in Tehran (Iran) from July 22-31 has been announced.

    The twelve (12) participating teams have been into groups of two as follows:

    Group A: China, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, India, Iraq, Thailand.

    Group B: Iran, Korea, Japan, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Lebanon.

    The top four (4) teams from each group advance to the Quarter-Finals.

    The Final Phase will be played in a knockout format from the Quarter-Finals onwards (Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final).

    The 24th FIBA Asia U18 Championship is the qualifying event for the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship, the venue for which will be decided soon.

    The top three teams from the 24th FIBA Asia U18 Championship will represent Asia at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship.

    China are the three-time defending champions, having beaten Iran in the final of the 24th edition of the event in Doha (Qatar) two years ago.
