Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Korea claim last spots at #FIBAU17 Women's World Cup!
AMMAN (Jordan) - Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Korea all secure the final spots to play at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 which will be held in Debrecen, Hungry from 9-17 July.
AMMAN (Jordan) - Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Korea all secure the final spots to play at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 which will be held in Debrecen, Hungry from 9-17 July at the end of the Group Phase at the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship 2022.
Australia, New Zealand, and Japan are all returning to make another appearance at the U17 Basketball World Cup after playing in the 2018 edition in Belarus. Meanwhile, Korea will be making a return after missing out in the previous edition.
Both Australia and Japan have played in all U17 Women’s World Cups prior to this one, with the Sapphires even winning it all in 2016. Australia’s most recent appearance saw them finish at third place. Meanwhile, Japan finished at seventh place in 2018 while their best final standing in the U17 Women’s World Cup was a fourth place finish in 2012.
Korea have played in three U17 Women’s World Cup, their most recent finish being at 15th place in 2016. Their best finish was at 9th place in 2012.
For New Zealand, this will be their second appearance in the competition, after finishing at 12th place in the previous edition of the event.
These four national squads complete the 16-team cast of the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022. They join the other qualified teams which are Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Mali, Mexico, Slovenia, Spain, USA, and hosts Hungary.
These four teams will continue to play in the Semi-Finals of the U16 Women’s Asian Championship, as they are all still in the running for a place on the podium.
