TOKYO (Japan) - An online FIBA statisticians workshop was held on January 16 and 17 by the FIBA Regional Office in Asia. This adds to the ongoing efforts of the Regional Office to raise the quality and level of basketball in the region.
The workshop was held with the objective to continue to prepare a core group of FIBA licensed statisticians for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. A total of 33 statisticians attended the workshop.
This workshop is the second workshop held in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics, after the first session was hosted in Japan back in October 2018. The Olympic Basketball Tournaments in Tokyo are scheduled to take place from July 25 and August 8 2021.

"I'm very happy that we've been able to continue as planned to prepare statisticians for the Tokyo Olympics," said FIBA Executive Director Asia Hagop Khajirian. "They (statisticians) are a very important part of our game"
The workshop falls in line with the plans of the Regional Office to improve the quality and increase the number of licensed statisticians within Asia and further improve and develop the game of basketball on the continent.
