Chinese Taipei dominate India for first win

TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Challenge 2016) – Chinese Taipei used a strong third quarter to expand the separation between themselves India en route to their first win, 90-66, at the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 in Tehran, Iran. The Taipei squad had four players score in double-figures.

Turning Point: With India staying within striking distance at 51-41 in the third quarter, Chinese Taipei leaned Chou Po-Chen, Chien Wei-Ju and Chou Po-Hsun to unfurl a 6-0 min-run that ballooned the lead to 16 points and effectively take the wind out of India’s sails.

Stats Don't Lie: India had the size to match up well with Chinese Taipei, but that didn’t stop the latter from winning the battle of the boards, 53-34. Quincy Davis and Liu Cheng paired up for a combined 24 rebounds for Chinese Taipei, which also forced India to shoot just 28.6% from the field throughout the game.

Game Hero: Davis asserted his might in the paint for Chinese Taipei. Knowing full well that Amjyot and Amritpal Singh both played without relief against the Philippines last night, Davis showed no hesitation in going to work against the Indian frontline. The naturalized American tallied 18 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots while also shooting 9/14 from the field.

The Bottom Line: This could have been a close one had India’s big three been as fresh as they were last night. Chinese Taipei notch their first win of the tourney and have great momentum for tomorrow as they take on the Philippines, who are hoping to bounce back in a big way.
