BUENOS AIRES (Liga Nacional) - Former Argentina international Pepe Sanchez is thrilled to be back in the Liga Nacional, where he played for Obras Sanitarias over the weekend for the first time since recently signing with the team.
Sanchez, 32, was the starting point guard on his country’s gold-medal winning team at the 2004 Olympics and spent the majority of his professional career in Europe.
He short a stint with Real Madrid last season and returned home.
In a 93-88 win over Boca Juniors, Sanchez was the best player on the court with 14 points, 12 assists, five rebounds and four steals.
"I have not come here to score points,” Sanchez said of joining Obras.
“I just want to enjoy myself and give something back to the competition of what I owe to it.
“I am really looking forward to it and I feel the same passion as I had when I was a boy, but now I have the need to construct a career.
“I already have my life organized, now I'm going to play basketball to enjoy myself and to leave a professional message to the young players.
“To return to the Liga Nacional is like an award for me. Physically I feel fine, strong, without pain."
