USA announce 16-man preliminary squad ahead of AmeriCup

Coach Jeff Van Gundy will put the players through their paces from August 17-24 in Houston. The USA are then expected to announce the 12-man roster for the AmeriCup before their departure for South America.
Seven of the players expected at training camp have experience of playing regular season games in the NBA. They are Larry Drew, Darrun Hilliard, Kendall Marshall, Darius Morris, Xavier Munford, Marshall Plumlee and Reggie Williams.

Van Gundy is excited for the players that have a chance to make the team which will go up against the Dominican Republic, Panama and Uruguay in Montevideo.

"As a group, we must come together quickly and match the passion and intensity of the teams in Group C."

The USA's first game will be against the Panamanians on August 28. They will face the Uruguayans and the Dominicans, respectively, the following two days.
The best team from each group will advance to the Final Phase, along with Argentina who will automatically qualify because of their status as the main organizers of the competition. The Final Phase will be played in Cordoba, Argentina.
