The last player to not make the cut for final squad was Salvador Zanotta, a Point Guard for Hebraica y Macabi; which causes a change in the Coach's strategy for the national team: “I always build squads with seven outside players and 5 inside players. Considering the caliber of our rivals, we decided to change and add another inside player to the team. That’s why we left out one of the point guards.
Point Guard Jayson Granger, who will defend Uruguay for the second time in an international tournament, declared: “We're prepared. It won't be an easy task, but we're playing at home and that’s very important. We hope that people will come to see us so that we can win the three games. We have to improve some aspects, but we prepared well so we’ll make it.”
In relation to the injury he sustained to his ankle during the last friendly match against Argentina, he said: “It's much better. I won't have any physical problems during the tournament.”
For his part, Coach Marcelo Signorelli spoke clearly about his rivals: “It’s an even group and we should take things day by day. The Dominican Republic are undergoing some building and have a couple of weeks under their belt. We know what United States are capable of, but also that they’re coming to play with only a few days of training. They're naturally talented, but we must seek to play the collective game to win the match. We know Panama more than the other team and they've also been training for only a short while. Each game must be played and we know that no one will gift us anything, but we're hopeful that we can move forward to the Final Four.”
In terms of preparing for the competition, he had no qualms in saying: “I'm very satisfied with what we did. We played 8 high-level friendly matches and we trained for the time we wanted. It's time for us to showcase in the court everything we did.”
