CORDOBA (FIBA AmeriCup 2017) - Mexico made it to the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 Final Four with a perfect score after winning Group A against Puerto Rico, Brazil and Colombia.
However, Sergio Valdeolmillos' team couldn't handle Argentina and lost 84-67 in Cordoba's Orfeo Superdome.
Mexico guard Jorge Gutierrez, who finished with 16 points, 2 rebounds and an assist, spoke about the loss.
"It was a tough game against a great opponent," he said. "We started off with a good defense but then we slowed down and lost it. Argentina came out stronger in the second half and that's why they won."
Mexico and Argentina faced each other in the 2015 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Mexico City and the former won, 76-70, to leave Los 12 Guerreros out of the Olympic Games.
However, Gutierrez says he and his teammates were not on a revenge mission.
"We didn't come here to solve unfinished business," he said. "That's in the past. We were focused on this game but unfortunately, they won."
The Chihuahua native and his teammates need to put the disappointment of falling in the Semi-Finals behind them. They need to concentrate on the Third-Place game against the Virgin Islands.
"We have to forget about the game against Argentina and focus on what's coming," Gutierrez said. "We have to give it our all.
The veteran guard also stressed a very important point.
"I'm always proud to represent Mexico," he said. "Great things are happening in the national team."
