    MEXICO CITY (FIBA U18 Americas Women’s Championship 2018) – Argentina, Canada, Colombia and USA earned the right to play at the FIBA U18 Americas Women’s Championship 2018 Semi-after achieving convincing win in the Quarter-Finals of the continental championship.

    USA secured a spot in the Semi-Finals of the FIBA U18 Americas Women’s Championship with an 87-27 win over El Salvador. USA dominated from the get-go and established a commanding 51-19 advantage at the end of the first half. USA shot for a 56% from the field and scored 54 points from the painted area. Olivia Nelson-Ododa led the scoring for the USA with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

     Canada qualified to the Semi-Finals of the continental championship after a 98-52 win over Chile in the Quarter-Finals. The Canadians earned their stripes and escaped to a quick lead following a 22-7 first quarter. Chile showed better passages on both sides of the court and won the second quarter. A more determined Canada appeared after half-time and the team went on to win the next 10 minutes 31-9. The team coached by Claire Meadows never looked back and headed to the win. Christina Morra was the top performer for the Canadians with a 21-point and 10-rebound “double-double”.

     Colombia earned a spot in the Semi-Finals of the FIBA U18 Americas Women’s Championship after a 85-58 win over Puerto Rico in the Quarter-Finals. The game started evenly, teams trading the lead on the scoreboard throughout the entire first half. Colombia went into half-time with a 2-point lead, 34-32. Another Colombian team showed up for the third quarter, and with great additions from Natalia Pineda, who had 29 points in the game, the team won the quarter 31-14 to take a commanding 65-46 lead. Colombia kept producing at a high-level and celebrated the win.

    Argentina took the last spot in the Semi-Finals of the FIBA U18 Americas Women’s Championship 2018 after defeating the host 89-62. Argentina had a better start and took a 10-point lead during the first quarter, with a great job from Florencia Chagas who added 7 points in the first 10 minutes. Mexico reacted and cut the difference to 5 points to end the first quarter. Argentina won the second quarter 20-12 and escaped to an advantage of 13 points to end the first half. Argentina kept adding and never looked back.
