    Mexico welcomes FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship in June

    MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA regional office in the Americas in association with the Mexican Basketball Federation have come together to bring the premier girls youth event of the Americas to Merida.

    MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA regional office in the Americas in association with the Mexican Basketball Federation have come together to bring the premier girls youth event of the Americas to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. The boys' event was also confirmed in the same location. Mexico will now be home to three major events in the Americas, both U16 competitions in June and the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in July.

    The event will be held from June 13th to June 19th, and the top four teams from the competition will advance to the FIBA U17 World Cup to be held in Mexico in July of 2024. The games will be played at the Poliforum Zamna, a 6,640-seat indoor multipurpose arena.

    The Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and USA national teams will headline this year’s edition. The U16 Women’s Americas Championship has hosted many notable players such as Jada Williams, Melisa Gretter, Kia Nurse, Taissa Nascimento Queiroz, and Candela Gentinetta.

    The draw for the competition, which determines the seeding of each participating federation, will be held on April 27th at 5pm ET in Miami, Fl.
