    FIBA U16 Americas Championship groups announced after draw

    MIAMI (United States) - The groups for the FIBA U16 Americas Championship that will be played at the Poliforum Zamná in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, from June 5 to 11, was announced after the official draw.

    MIAMI (United States) - The groups for the FIBA U16 Americas Championship that will be played at the Poliforum Zamná in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, from June 5 to 11, was announced after the official draw at the FIBA Regional Office in the Americas on Thursday in Miami.

    The teams were placed in pairs taking into account their position in the current FIBA Nike Youth Ranking, then the members of each group and their spot for the games were drawn.

    The results of the draw were as follows:

    Group A

    1. Puerto Rico
    2. Argentina
    3. Mexico
    4. USA

    Group B

    1. Uruguay
    2. Dominican Republic
    3. Canada
    4. Brazil

    In the Group Phase, each team will play one game against each opponent to define the qualifying order for the Quarter-Finals. They will meet in this order:

    1A vs. 4B
    2B vs. 3A
    1B vs. 4A
    2A vs. 3B

    The four (4) winners will advance to the Semi-Finals and the rest will play for positions 5-8. The Semi-Finals winners will play for the gold medal and the losers for the bronze.

    The top four national teams will qualify for the FIBA U17 World Cup to be held in June 2024 in Turkey.
