MONTERREY - FIBA's New Competition System is ushering in a new era in basketball. From 2017 onward, 1,680 top players will compete in 1,200 national team games around the world.
This number of regular national team games is unprecedented. In preparation for this undertaking, FIBA's Regional Office in the Americas conducted the second edition of the FIBA Americas Statistician Certification Workshops.
The second edition of the workshop featured 18 Statisticians and ran on January 27-28, at the Estadio Nuevo Leon Unido in Monterrey, Mexico, during Group B of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas.
"A new edition of FIBA's Statistician Certification Workshop is another step forward for the successful implementation of FIBA’s new competition system," said Americas Competition Director Javier Otero.
"We are looking forward to upcoming workshops, and hope to add new certified statisticians to our team."
The workshop involved the discussion of a situational interpretations and how these will be applied globally to create consistency throughout future FIBA competitions.
FIBA Americas will continue its Statistician Certification workshops throughout the first phase of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas, in Buenos Aires (ARG) on February 3-4, and Ponce (PUR) on February 10-11.
This is one of many initiatives FIBA is conducting worldwide to fully prepare for the inception of the new competition system beginning in 2017.
