BEIRUT (Lebanon) – The FIBA Regional Office-Asia has heralded a landmark move in the promotion of its events in the region by announcing the first ever ambassadors for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.
Jordanian stalwart Sam Daghlas and Saudi Arabia’s very own hero Ali Al Maghrabi are the ambassadors for FIBA’s flagship event in Asia to be hosted by Saudi Arabia after almost three decades.
“The move to have ambassadors promote further boosts the efforts of FIBA Regional Office in promoting basketball in Asia,” said FIBA Asia President Dr. K Govindaraj on the appointment of ambassadors for the first time in FIBA Asia history.
“We thank the ambassadors for taking time off their busy schedule and join hands with us in providing a boost to FIBA Asia Cup. They have set an example to the younger generation in terms giving back to the sport which has given them everything,” he added.
“The personalities chosen as ambassadors are not only icons of our sport, but also a source of inspiration for youngsters,” said Mr. Hagop Khajirian, Executive Director-Asia.
“The competition they represent is FIBA’s flagship events in Asia, no doubt. Apart from that, this competition is also a great representation of triumph of human spirit and sport over all other distractions,” he added.
“We hope the combination of these factors, the presence of truly inspiring icons acting as ambassadors and the superlative sporting excellence of the competition in these events will take basketball in Asia to newer and greater heights,” he said.
The FIBA Asia Cup 2025, featuring 16 top men’s National Teams from Asia and Oceania, will be played in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) from Aug 5-17 this year. Both the Ambassadors are expected to participate in the Draw for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 set for April 8 at Jeddah.
