Tunisian President pays tribute to FIBA AfroBasket 2017 winners

TUNIS (FIBA AfroBasket 2017) - Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Monday paid tribute to the new FIBA AfroBasket champions.
In a ceremony held at Carthage Palace, the head of State congratulated players, coaching staff, members of the Tunisian Basketball Federation as well as members of the Local Organizing Committee.
During the event - held two days after Tunisia dethroned 2015 winners Nigeria - team captain Makram Ben Romdhane offered Beji Caid Essebsi an official team jersey.
The team also presented the new FIBA AfroBasket Cup to the head of State.
In the process, the official thanked "All those who have contributed to the success of the organization of the continental event, expressing his deep appreciation for Tunisia."

It was Tunisia’s first African title as hosts of the competition after two attempts in 1987 and 2015.
The Tunisians, the number two African team in the NIKE FIBA World Ranking, won their first continental title since 2011.
