Although Guinea finished the regional qualifier with a similar record (3-3) as Mali, they failed direct qualification for next September's FIBA AfroBasket on goal-average. Senegal and Mali secured automatic qualification while Cape Verde have been eliminated.

However, Guinea will take part in the competition from September 8-16 thanks to a wild card invitation from FIBA Africa.

They have been drawn in Group C along co-hosts Tunisia, Rwanda and Cameroon.

It will be Guinea's first FIBA AfroBasket since 1985.
